How Patter works
Patter turns what you record about your pet into context, and then uses that context everywhere. This page explains that mechanism — what goes in, what Patter does with it, and what comes back out.
How does Patter work?
Patter works in four steps. You set up a pet profile and record everyday care. Those entries accumulate into a growing context about that specific animal. Patter analyses that context across health, nutrition, mood and training. The result comes back as guidance, surfaced changes, reminders, and an AI assistant that already knows your pet.
- Profile and daily entries. Species, breed, age, weight, gender, food, known conditions and allergies — then meals, water, weight, mood scores, daily visual checks, vaccinations and vet visits as you go.
- Accumulated context. Each entry adds to a single picture of your pet rather than sitting in its own separate log.
- Analysis across care areas. Patter interprets that context — nutrient and calorie analysis, weight and hydration interpretation, mood evaluation, AI-evaluated daily checks, vaccination status.
- What you get back. Guidance suited to your pet, changes worth your attention, reminders that reflect real care needs, tailored training plans, and answers from an assistant that already has the history.
How does Patter know my pet?
Setup starts with a photo. Patter uses photo analysis to work out your pet’s species and breed, and — when you do not know them — to estimate age, weight and gender. Onboarding then captures the context that changes how everything else is interpreted: what your pet eats, any known conditions or diseases, and any allergies.
That last part matters more than it sounds. An allergy entered during setup is the reason a food can later be assessed against your pet specifically rather than against pets in general.
Why does it matter that the features are not separate?
Because a signal in one area of care often only means something in the light of another. Patter’s parts are not separate tools sharing an icon: what you record in one area is available to the others, which is what makes the guidance specific to your animal instead of generic.
- Allergies and known conditions from your pet’s profile shape how a food is assessed.
- Mood scores build a pattern over time that feeds into your pet’s wider health picture.
- Weight history, water intake and nutrition are read together rather than as three unrelated charts.
- Training plans are generated from your pet’s own age, breed and history.
- Reminders draw on medication schedules, vaccination timing and your pet’s routine.
- The AI assistant can see the same accumulated context, so you do not have to re-explain your pet each time.
What does Patter cover day to day?
Six areas of care, all reading from the same profile: health, nutrition, mood, training, reminders and an AI assistant.
Health

Nutrition
Calorie tracking, macronutrient and micronutrient analysis, water intake and its interpretation, weight history, and food-safety assessment against your pet’s own allergies and conditions. See nutrition in Patter.
Mood
A daily score from one to five plus a short questionnaire. Patter builds the history into a graph and a list, evaluates it, and can raise a health-related notification when a pattern warrants attention. Mood is a longitudinal signal in Patter, not a journal.
Training
You state the goal you want to work on; Patter generates a training plan tailored using your pet’s information and context. Training is supported for both cats and dogs.
Reminders
Reminders in Patter are context-aware. They use relevant pet and application information — such as medication schedules and vaccination timing — rather than being isolated generic alarms.
AI assistant
An assistant with access to your pet’s in-app context and history, able to hold ordinary conversations about your pet and to recommend veterinary care when appropriate. See the AI in Patter.
Can Patter handle more than one pet?
Yes. Patter supports multiple pets, each with their own profile and history, and the AI assistant can understand relevant context about your other pets rather than only the one you are currently looking at. Adding more than one pet requires PatterPro, Patter’s paid tier.
Where Patter stops
Patter analyses and interprets your pet’s care information, tells you when something deserves a closer look, and can suggest what it might be related to. It does not diagnose, and it is not a substitute for a veterinarian examining your animal — so when something warrants professional attention, Patter says so.
